TributesI have a scratchy throat and a case of the blahs today. Boring. I’ll try to think of something more interesting to fill this page. Yesterday was Al’s mother’s funeral. In a lovely tribute to her, her family had decorated the foyer of the church with many pictures, as usual, but had added different items to the display. Draped over tables were colorful afghans and a quilt she had made. A couple of jars of pickles and some beans she had canned were also part of the collage. In her ninety-one plus years, she definitely left an impression on all those she left behind. Tomorrow morning I hope to be in Southeast Portland at a tribute of another sort. My daughter will receive an award for twenty-five years of employment at Multnomah County. All county employees with five or more years of service will be presented with appropriate pins. Somewhere in a jewelry box, I have a five-year pin tucked away. I didn’t make it to ten. I am proud of her perseverance.
It is nice to receive accolades while we are living. The most recent such tribute to Al’s mother was her ninetieth birthday party. She was the belle of the ball, and loved every minute of it. It’s a wonderful memory now that she’s gone
