Musings on the 77th Anniversary of My BirthI’ve done a good bit of reading this last week and some writing. While reading bios of two very different authors, I observed that each was described as “a Renaissance man.” The first was Robert Fulghum, the other Rod McKuen. They are both multi-talented, but very different. Be that as it may, it set me to speculating over whether any female has ever been described as a Renaissance woman. I can’t recall ever seeing those two words together. Women may be described as “Rubenesque,” but not “Renaissance.” Now I ask you, is that fair? On the other hand, I don’t recall hearing any male described as Rubenesque. Beer-bellied is more like it. However, I didn’t waste any valuable energy resenting the above discrimination. Today, I read, wrote and lazed away the hours as is fitting for a person of my advanced years. I enjoyed the birthday communications from family and friends, beginning with the hot cup of fresh coffee Al delivered to my bedside table. While I was languishing indoors, fighting the effects of “pollen intoxication,” Al hooked up our sprinkler system for the summer, finished planting the garden and trimming the hedge.
The sun is expected to hide behind rain clouds tomorrow but to come back for a spectacular weekend. Hmmm, let’s hope they got the forecast right this time.
