Moving Right Along

Looking at my record, it would be hard to convince anyone how much I hate to move, but I do. Probably the first time in my life I’ll ever be ten years or more in one place, it will be where my ashes are planted. The rent is going up $14.00 on June 1st on this little postage-stamp hunk of ground our manufactured home is placed on. That raises the total to a figure equal to the rent on a fairly decent apartment. I’ve enjoyed living here the past four years and four months, but it may be time to move on.

Yard work is getting to be a drag for both of us. Also, we are not within easy walking distance of a bus line and we’re getting to the age where our driving privileges may not last another ten years. From time to time, we find the demands of the park management to be oppressive here also. With an older manufactured home, we can’t just pick it up and move it somewhere else

The last, but not least, consideration is the building boom in this area. With the new Bridgeport shopping mall inspiring other buildings to pop up like mushrooms, it probably won’t be long until the California owners of this park decide to take a big bunch of cash from some developers and dump all their tenants in the street. Greedy park owners all over the country are selling out as we speak.

So here goes, I’m going to take a deep breath and close my eyes, and see if I can wake up in a new place. Wish me luck.
