Packing it Out

Al spent several hours today packing our donations to the neighborhood benefit yard sale. The carport where the sale will be held is just a few blocks away, but some of the stuff is bulky enough that it took quite a few loads. We keep discovering more things we can quite easily live without, like the television set in the bedroom that’s never been turned on in the last three or four years.

I decided to pare down my wardrobe once again. If I keep giving away a half a dozen shirts every time I buy a new one, my closet will be in a lot better shape. It’s my plan never to paint again, so I’m giving away my Nike Airs with the red stain on them that I put on the deck of a house in Vancouver. Not only is the stain no longer on the deck, the deck is no longer on the house. Sic transit Gloria. I also tossed my painting shirt and will toss my painting jeans as soon as I find them.

It just occurred to me that I have about three lifetimes’ worth of office supplies. I’ll get into those tomorrow and get down to a reasonable amount. This is heady stuff--getting rid of oversupplies. I may even be able to find things quickly in the future.

I can’t give up my radio phonograph tape player with the turntable however, or my battery operated boom box (useful in a disaster). As long as I have it, we’re unlikely to have a disaster, right?

There is still hope that my internal clock will find its way back into this time zone soon. So far, I can’t seem to sleep past 4:00 a.m. no matter what time I go to bed. Then I fall asleep every time I sit down all during the day.

By the time I get back to chess lessons again, I’ll have forgotten everything I knew. It wasn’t much, anyway.
