A Month of Furious ActivityI made a disappointing trip to Home Depot today, looking for a specific light fixture for over the kitchen sink and for lampshades. I couldn’t find a fixture to fit and couldn’t locate any lampshades that were not attached to lamps. When I wanted to price a room air conditioner, the clerk I located didn’t know any more about where they were than I did, but he made a phone call and led me to a far corner of the store. The couple who are buying our place came by this afternoon to take measurements for the remodeling they plan to do. They promised to invite us over to see the finished product. That should be fun. The scheduling of the sale transactions is very tight. The closing of their house sale is on June 30th, our closing is tentatively scheduled for July 1st, but that’s a Saturday (and a holiday weekend as well), so we’ll have to wait and see how that goes. They’re giving up possession of their house on July 1st and plan to live in their RV in a nearby park for the rest of July while the remodeling is being done. The work can’t be started before July 5th anyway, so all the pieces may fall into place. We are surrounded by towers of filled boxes. We have a reserve of empty boxes ready for use, also. I think I can pack in my sleep now and may be doing that soon. This month is one-third over and it’s not clear to me that a third of the work for the move is done. I learned one good thing today from the gal who’s running the benefit sale here in the park. Unsold leftover donations will be stored and saved for future sales, so there is no danger they will be returned to the donors. Our computer guru (Al’s granddaughter’s fiance) will be here Sunday so we can get info from him about the best way to hook up our network when we move. My son told me there is “cat hair” wire that can be run through a tiny hole in one ceiling, and back into another room’s ceiling through the attic. He’s a website designer and deals with a lot of different types of computer equipment.
Maybe I can sneak in a little writing time over the weekend, if I pack fast enough on Saturday.
