One Foot in the DoorWe got a foot in the door this afternoon at our new place. The carpet cleaners finished about 7:30 a.m. and the floor was still wet, but it’s drying fairly fast. We have the ceiling fan and an oscillating fan running and will leave them going all night. Al has taken over about 6 or 7 station wagon loads of boxes and small items, as well as six bookcases that will line one living room wall. In the morning I went to K-Mart to check the current prices on laundry appliances. They have a good offer that starts tomorrow, so I’ll probably go back and get the small (24") Kenmore stacking set. There are some fun things to shop for once we get unpacked, such as a patio umbrella, fireplace tools and other odds and ends. This afternoon I invested in shelf lining?spendy stuff these days. I like the rubberized kind that holds things in place and so I pay more than for contact paper or other shelf paper. I have about half of the cupboards and drawers in the kitchen lined, but there are still many shelves in a dining room built-in and the bathrooms. There appears to be a lot of storage, but we have a lot of stuff in spite of our efforts to downsize. I’m ready for bed, but hope to stay awake awhile yet so I won’t get up at 4:00 a.m. A neighbor who is a collector (the guy Al plays chess with) took my old electric typewriter. I think it is probably a collector’s item. It had a tractor attachment that converted it to a dot-matrix printer, but I don’t know what happened to that. It was noisy and slow and is certainly obsolete now, but the typewriter works well.
Well, if I live through tomorrow, you’ll probably hear from me tomorrow night.
