The Hottest DayA lot of clouds formed toward the end of the day and we were treated to an Arizona type sunset that I watched from the swimming pool. Although it has cooled some, the humidity has risen, so the difference isn’t noticeable. Actually this brick building insulates well against the heat and has not been miserably uncomfortable yet. I may get a room air conditioner later anyway to protect us from the cigarette smoke that wanders into the bedroom from downstairs when I open a window. I slept for two hours in the early afternoon and went to the library for a couple of hours where I sat and read in the cool air. I was surprised only two other people came in and out while I was there. It’s only a block or two away, but I drove in this heat. Fresh cold water was added to the pool today and the swim this evening was very refreshing. Two women were leaving as I arrived at the pool and no one joined me. The outdoor pool I saw earlier from the library was pretty busy. Too many kids were there for me to enjoy it. Our record temperature today in Portland was 104 degrees. It is supposed to cool down to maybe 101 tomorrow. Whoo hoo! I used the heat as an excuse to do as little as possible. I did run a few errands in the morning before it got really hot.
The coolest spot in the apartment is the dining room table under the ceiling fan. I may move my laptop out there and do some writing tomorrow. I could even take it to the library and use it there. I hear by email that it is pretty hot and/or humid everywhere and, as one person said today, “It isn’t even August yet.”
