Computersville

An area in which you are guaranteed to become hopelessly lost, confused and panicky. This morning I thought I had misplaced a vital installation CD for our Broadband service. We will need it in the event our “communications” company ever gets around to reactivating it on our phone line, or at least so they told me.

I was racing around, dripping sweat, and cursing my own stupidity, when I decided to calm down, sit down with the installation files, and go through them systematically. The CD was in the right file in an alternate location. Of course, when I found it, the small print admonished me not to use it until I’d been notified by the company that it was my “activation date.”

I must say I understand why many seniors just say “To hell with computers.” But, as a writer with arthritis in my hands, I’m more or less married to my computers. I think I’ll be delighted with them when we get everything up and running and are able to operate wirelessly. I may even open a bottle of wine we’ve been saving for a special occasion. I think it will be too old to drink if we save it for when we finish unpacking.
