Odds and EndsToday was full of good things, a good swim, a good nap after a shopping trip, and a bit of laundry and dishwashing (done mostly by my trusty electric friends). There is so much suffering in the world, that I’m grateful for all my good days. Speaking of suffering, watching the news comes to mind. I’m always amazed by what the media deems important enough to repeat endlessly, i.e. Mel Gibson’s drunk and the Doberman who ate Elvis’s teddy bear. I suppose the latter matter provides comic relief from all the sad news. As one local news commentator said, “It is pretty funny.” Another said something to the effect that she imagined the dog looking at the collection of all those stuffed bears, and muttering, “I don’t think so.” I suppose the collectors don’t think the demise of the bears is very funny, but I can’t work up much sympathy. Every day I think I’m going to get to the library and/or do some writing--so far, no good. Maybe when I get all the unpacking and rearranging done, I won’t have any more excuses. Yesterday, I rearranged dishes in the kitchen. When I first unpacked them, my placement looked very practical. Not so.
Today the new modem that I hope will make me wireless on DSL arrived. Sunday my son will be here and can help me install it. It is incredible how spoiled I’d become since getting on DSL. Now dial-up seems interminably slow. My son-in-law spent two hours a couple of days ago on the phone with my DSL provider trying to get my old modem to work and they finally decided it needed to be replaced. I hope the new one solves the problem.
