More Unpacking Chores

Finally got some pictures hung today. It seems to make a new place seem more like home with old familiar pictures around. I still have a lot of family photos to sort through and find places to display. I hate to make as many holes as it might take to put them all up on these freshly painted walls. I’ve already arranged some on shelves in the hallway and may put more there before making more holes in the walls. Floyd did the hammering for me and I lined the pictures up. Since I’d decided not to spend a lot of time measuring, but just to be haphazard about spacing, I was surprised at how well they were placed. When I thought one poster might be a little crooked, I measured and found it was exactly 22 inches from the ceiling to each top corner.

Having little mementos of my travels here and there around the house, helps remind me of the good times and some not so good. I’ve been finding places for them as they turn up.

I also did more sorting in the spare room to make room for what will actually be useful in there. It’s nice to feel that things are getting done, even if I don’t move as fast as I might like.

Today, the entertainment below the balcony was the dismantling of the huge tent the musicians used yesterday and the smaller ones used by vendors. The sun was warm out there, so we sat and watched for some time. The job was completed just in time for people to begin arriving for some sort of party or reception that ran from late afternoon into the evening. Because we are above the action, we don’t get much noise unless we leave the sliding doors open.

I hesitate to put the words on paper or utter them, but I do hope this will be my final home.
