Ups and Downs of Aging

Whether or not it is an idiosyncrasy of my eyes or a result of aging, I find it difficult to read black print on dark colored backgrounds. However, I’ve noted that, if I highlight the print, the background changes color and the print is white, much easier to read. There are a number of other people’s blogs that I enjoy reading now and again, and being able to change the colors helps a lot.

Advertisements and announcements printed on paper obviously can’t be converted as above, so most often are tossed into recycling. I’m certainly not going to struggle to read something I didn’t want in the first place.

Today I went to the morning coffee klatch next door at Town Hall and was greeted by friendly neighbors. I was invited to refresh my pinochle and bridge games and join those groups. Floyd and I are working on the bridge skills. He’s not interested in pinochle, so I may pass on that. I don’t want to get too much time involved in activities that will cut into writing time, but a few of those distractions might help us get acquainted in this little village.

I felt pretty fortunate to be drinking coffee (about three swallows, since coffee is on my list of forbidden fruits) with neighbors while someone else was cleaning my house. She did a great job and will be back in two weeks to do it again. My ailing joints rejoice at not having to push a vacuum cleaner around and crawl into dusty corners.

Tomorrow is writing critique group where I get my fix that energizes the writing genes back into more regular activity.
