Last Day in Seattle

Today Margaret and I read the Sunday paper after breakfast while Bea went to church. Bea’s sister-in-law Bev, who has been our friend since high school, dropped by after church for coffee, cookies and conversation.

After she left, we played a few hands of Spite and Malice and had lunch. Of course, a lot of the conversation concerned the gathering the day before that was so informative and so much fun.

Some time after lunch, Margaret picked up our fourth sister Fran, at her house, and brought her back to join us in more card games. With all the talking and laughing, we didn’t care much who won.

Around 4:00, Margaret left to visit and have dinner with our niece in Northwest Seattle. A couple of old friends of many years dropped by for a moment on their way home from grandkids’ soccer games and said hello.

Bea and I had a dinner of wonderful leftovers. She made cookies for a memorial service tomorrow. One of the downsides of being over 70 is losing many friends, relatives and acquaintances. Bea does catering for her church and will be working two memorial services this week, after entertaining us all weekend. She is a glutton for punishment, but is cheerful and efficient. Also, a great cook.

Margaret and I will head back to Portland tomorrow, stopping in Shelton for a brief visit with a third cousin to collect genealogy information. Tuesday morning we’ll go to Cottage Grove to search for more such material. Wednesday we’ll be back in Portland and Thursday she will fly home to Oceanside, California.
