Back to Normal

Life is returning to normal once again. I’m back home to stay for the foreseeable future, the swimming pool is back in operation so I got my exercise tonight, and the election is over so the dinnertime phone calls have ceased. Maybe those millions of phone calls were responsible for getting the voters out. If so, they were worth it. Public apathy has been epidemic in recent years. We need to pay attention to what’s going on in our world.

The weather guessers (as my late husband Jim called them) predict another downpour tomorrow. So we bought fireplace tools and fake logs today to try out the fireplace tomorrow. I hope the chimney’s been cleaned in the last decade or two, but there’s no way to know that for sure.

I’ve been looking for some decent dining chairs to go with the lovely oak table Floyd brought with him. So far I haven’t found exactly what I’d like: durable upholstery, casters on the legs, and enough comfort to sit at the table as long as we like. I found some “task chairs” at Fred Meyer, but each store only had two or three of them in stock and the price made me doubt their durability. My trip to the Chair Outlet in Tigard was even more disappointing. The only chair they had that could come even close was vinyl covered and $99.00. So I’ll keep looking and probably won’t have them for the holiday occasions this year, anyway.

Tomorrow I hope to sit by a fire and do some writing on my laptop.
