Rest in Peace

I have been searching for the noble values in this country that our president pompously brags about. Yes, they are around, but not among politicians, high-ranking business moguls, and certainly they are absent among many high-paid athletes.

This latest debacle in the N.B.A. is, finally, so egregious that even athletic officials can’t ignore it. It would be unfair to tar the entire sports world with a wide brush. However, I am sick of hearing about these overpaid, under-matured, babies who’ve been pampered most of their lives just because they can shoot a basket, kick a football or swing a hockey stick.

Granted, the few fans who also behave atrociously, should not be totally excused. But I can understand their feelings better than those of the spoiled athletes. When they have paid the high cost of tickets to a so-called sporting event, watching the unsportsmanlike behavior of the players has got to be a big disappointment.

I have written previously about the demise of service in this country. It is sad to watch sportsmanship follow in its wake.
