Christmas Preparation

Today a friend delivered a perfectly shaped four-foot Christmas tree for us. We will keep it on the balcony for a week or two before bringing it inside so it won’t dry up so much. The stand I bought does have a one-gallon reservoir for water, but our electric heat will probably dry a tree pretty fast anyway. Several years ago I gave away all my decorations and I don’t want to accumulate a lot more stuff, so I think the tree trimmings will be minimal.

She also brought us about a half dozen oak logs for a Yuletide fire. We haven’t had a real wood fire in this fireplace yet and I’m looking forward to that.

I feel a little odd thinking about Christmas just after Thanksgiving, but I guess it’s better than the stores that now start before Halloween. They are playing Christmas music already. I’m glad I’m not working where I have to listen to it for a month. Most of that music has good memories for me, and I think hearing it over and over would spoil them.

Yesterday my son-in-law brought a splitter for our cable connection that provides our internet service, so that we can have a second television hooked up in the spare bedroom. So tonight I’m running back and forth watching the final episode of The Bachelor. I haven’t watched previous shows, but it’s an interesting study watching how “normal” or abnormal people (probably anyone who participates in such a show isn’t totally normal) behave in such an abnormal situation. I think these shows have been going on for several years now. I’d be interested to know if any of these people have married and stayed married for any length of time
