Sitting by the Fire

Some of the oak firewood that we received for Christmas is burning along with one of the pine fake logs as I sit with this notebook on my lap. It’s great to have wi-fi so I can use it wherever I want, but I think the battery is getting old and tired, so it won’t let me goof around too long. I suppose I could get an extension cord and stay here if it conks out on me soon.

Our Christmas was a good one and Santa found all the right things that don’t take up space and are useful, such as restaurant gift cards and sweaters for Floyd. I got the book, Woe is I, and I’m looking forward to enjoying it. I’ve just started another memoir book by a mountain climber that Floyd got at the library and has finished. Jim Wickwire is the writer and I think it’s going to be a good read. Floyd could hardly put it down.

Tomorrow I have to take the car in to check the Check Engine light that apparently has to do with the emissions system. I also want to get the ignition checked since it locks up periodically and I have to fiddle with it for five or ten minutes before I can turn the key.

Tomorrow night we have one more family gathering with Floyd’s late wife’s family and several of his children and families. Then I think the holiday festivities will be over. I hate to admit it, but I had to decide I’m not up to having an open house here for the new year as I’d hoped to do. I’m feeling quite well, but my feet just won’t handle being on them for lengthy periods.

We have a February cruise to the Caribbean in the planning stages. I dread flying across the country but hope it will be worth it to spend a couple of weeks in the sun.
