The Village Green is White TonightWe woke to see a couple of inches of snow on the ground this morning and powder snow still falling. It stopped for awhile, then big, wet flakes fell for a short time and we probably have a couple of inches or so accumulated. Since it is 29 degrees outside, it’s not likely to melt any time soon. We may have above freezing temperatures part of the day tomorrow, but more moisture may come in tomorrow night in the form of sleet or freezing rain. We stayed home all day. Floyd read and I sat at the computer for a good amount of time, checking in with my sisters and my kids. A cousin wintering in Yuma reported a recent low temperature there of 25 degrees--unbelievable. They are having sunny, but not hot, days. Obviously, I skipped my swim today and I miss it. Last night a couple I’ve never seen before showed up with snorkel gear and fins and splashed the three or four of us oldsters in the pool. But, it’s a big pool and we can usually get away from hazards such as that. Yesterday, our free monthly concert was presented by a quartet of senior male musicians, a couple of them over 80, who have played music since they were 14. They haven’t forgotten anything they ever learned and the crowd, including me, reacted enthusiastically to the swing oldies and goodies they played. I?m getting nervous about weather that may keep us from reaching Fort Lauderdale to board the cruise ship on time. It doesn’t help that I’ve been trying to contact an agency in Austin, Texas about insurance in case we can’t make it, and their office is closed due to an ice storm for the third day now. Houston is not quite as cold, but they are having freezing rain and ice and that’s our transfer point where we change planes. Bad weather in either Portland or Houston, could keep us from getting to the ship. I’m going to send the agency an email on the off chance that someone is monitoring their correspondence. I hesitate to mention this, but in spite of wind and other weather, we haven’t had a power failure in this apartment yet. I’m saving fire logs in case it happens, however. < < back |
