My (Gulp) 78th Birthday

I know, I know, I don’t look a day over 77, but some days I feel verrrrrry much older. After Floyd left for work in the morning, I ran the dishwasher, plowed my way through dozens of emails in the backlog that accumulated while I was gone, read the paper and finally got dressed shortly before noon.

Then I planted the perky little pansies I bought yesterday in a pot near the front step. They blend in well with the flowering shrubs around them. There is still a blank spot around the pot that I can fill in, maybe with primroses and/or miniature roses. I’ll shop for plants in a day or so.

I decided to lunch on leftover chicken soup I put together yesterday. Soup helps me drop the extra pounds I picked up on the trip. Since I was craving a seafood dinner, a small lunch seemed wise.

In the afternoon I started writing my account of the Chico trip after I had tried unsuccessfully to download the pictures from my digital camera. I need another lesson from my son-in-law to do that job.

I turned on the Dr. Phil show and decided that he is morphing into Maury Povich. When a question came on the screen asking, “Did you pay for someone’s plastic surgery and have them leave you?” I began laughing hysterically and turned off the television. Apparently that will be the subject of a future program. At least I got a good laugh.

The gorgeous weather lured me out onto the balcony for a short while to sit in the sun. I picked up flotsam and jetsam the wind had blown around out there and came back inside to answer a phone call.

After my workout at the pool where the hot sun warmed me through the plastic roof, I came home and found Floyd trying to take a nap. My timing was not the best, but I encouraged him to give it another shot. After working at the computer awhile, I suggested we go to Red Lobster for dinner and we headed over there. After about a half hour wait, we were seated and had very prompt and courteous service. Half of my half-portion of shrimp-lobster fettucini Alfredo filled me up and I brought the rest home. Floyd was able to finish his lobster tail dinner.

Back home we had fresh strawberries and whipped topping for dessert. I enjoyed the humorous birthday cards I received from my sisters and the phone call from my daughter. My son had emailed me earlier since he’s out of town this weekend. It was, indeed, a happy birthday
