Tuesday- -Kralendijk, Bonair

We awoke at 9:00 a.m. to hear the captain announce that we were docking on the island of Bonaire. Before we could even dress for breakfast, the ship was secured. After breakfast, we walked on deck in a warm, light rain.  We sat for a while and viewed the village where we are docked.

This island was, and still may be, a Dutch colony, which the architecture reflects. We were able to see most of the town, as well as the hills behind it, from the ship. One two-story building we saw is painted deep purple on the first floor. The second floor is fuschia in the center and sort of chartreuse on each end. Very interesting. Other buildings are in the more common blue, yellow or gold of Dutch tradition. Only one or two are actually white. A four-story building, the tallest we could see, is under construction and not yet painted.

Floyd went to the library to work on the jigsaw puzzle and I resumed writing, in our cabin, on my trip logs.

After lunch, we lounged around the pool and I got in a good swim and exercise session in the now placid water. I had been surprised that, even when at sea, the pools were not nearly as crowded as those I’ve seen on other cruises. Most of the people on this trip are sunbathers and use the pool only briefly to wet their bodies for better tanning. We decided not to go ashore, since we could see most of the village from the ship and we felt like resting in a shady spot warmed by the tropical sun.

After a nap and dinner, we watched television until time for the 10:15 extravaganza of singing and dancing. The troupe put on an excellent show. We stayed to the end of it, in spite of weariness and paralyzed posteriors.

Back to the cabin, to end another sensational day.
